TAR AND GRAVEL ROOFS

Tar and gravel roofs have long been a popular option for roofing projects in Montreal.  They are suited for flat roofs or low sloped roofs.  Tar and gravel roofs are sometimes referred to as "built up roofs" and are applied by layering tar paper and asphalte onto the surface of the roof using molten asphalte.  The gravel on the surface is there to hold the roof down and protect it from the damaging effects of the suns UV rays.  The average life expectancy of such a roof in Montreal can last anywhere from 10-20 years.

A common problem with tar and gravel roofs is that they tend to leak over time and finding such leaks and repairing them can become both costly and time consuming.  Although they might be initially less expensive, they can end up costing more over time.  With Montreal's harsh climate, often the gravel on the roof can be blown away, exposing the roof to many damaging elements over time, greatly limiting the life expectancy of your roof.  Further more removing an old tar and gravel roof is a complicated process that adds to costs itself.  Most leaks that occur result in having to replace the entire roof.  It is for these reasons that Montreal Roofers W.S. do not do tar and gravel roofs and advise our clients of the cons of installing such a roof.
